Histological parameters of articular cartilage at patients with coxarthrosis owing to spondyloepiphysial dysplasia and their clinical significance

The aim: To study the structure and composition of articular cartilage in osteoarthritis patients with pondyloepiphysial dysplasia and their clinical significance.

Material and methods: Have been studied the samples of articular cartilage taken from the least of loaded part (peripheral zone of the lower segment) of the femoral head resected during total hip arthroplasty in 15 patients with clinical and radiographic signs of coxarthrosis stage 3-4, emerged on the basis of spondiloepifizarnoy dysplasia.

Results: In studied fragments of articular cartilage were observed changes corresponding to later stages of osteoarthritis with a pronounced inflammatory component with violations of the structure and composition of the collagen fibers that reduce its resistance to mechanical stress and lead to an intense accumulation of degradation products of cartilage.

Conclusions: Revealed features are factors of causing steadily progressing osteoarthritis in patients with spondyloepiphysial dysplasia, can explain some features of the clinical course of the disease and low efficiency of reconstructive surgery, require an special attention at the selection of treatment.
